Pakistan’s Key Role in Securing Iran-US Ceasefire Agreement

ISLAMABAD: What once seemed an unattainable ceasefire between Iran and the United States was achieved through the relentless efforts of Pakistan’s civil and military leadership. Persistent diplomatic engagement by Pakistani officials was central to this breakthrough.

Government insiders revealed that the past day and night were exceptionally demanding for Pakistan’s top leadership. Throughout the process, Pakistan maintained continuous communication not only with the United States and Iran but also with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations. Additionally, Pakistani representatives reached out multiple times to China and Russia, underscoring the broad international coordination involved.

These diplomatic exchanges occurred at both civilian and military levels. The initial phase of high-level talks began early Tuesday morning and lasted until approximately 10:00 AM. After a brief pause, discussions resumed from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM. In a significant development, a final and decisive round of negotiations started at 11:45 PM and continued into the early hours of Wednesday, concluding around 4:00 AM.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Defence Staff Syed Asim Munir were directly involved in these critical conversations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with key national security agencies working behind the scenes, played an essential role in steering the peace process with utmost discretion and responsibility.

Ultimately, the combined efforts of Pakistan’s civil and military leadership transformed what many considered an impossible diplomatic challenge into a successful ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States.
