Qatar Ministry of Interior Releases Detailed Driving Licence Guide

The Qatar Ministry of Interior has published a detailed guide explaining the step-by-step process for acquiring a driving licence. The guide specifies eligibility requirements, necessary documents, and the testing procedures applicants must follow.

Applicants are required to submit valid identification, a recent personal photograph, and a residence permit. Additionally, a medical evaluation, including an eyesight examination, is mandatory to confirm that candidates meet the health standards essential for safe driving.

In a significant development, the ministry clarified the minimum age criteria: individuals must be at least 18 years old to obtain licences for light vehicles, motorcycles, and vehicles modified for persons with disabilities. For licences related to heavy vehicles, construction machinery, and public transport, the minimum age is set at 21 years.

Prospective drivers must register with an accredited driving school, where they will complete theoretical lessons and practical driving sessions. The licensing process concludes with a series of assessments designed to test applicants’ understanding of traffic regulations and their driving skills on the road.

Upon successfully passing all examinations, licences can be issued either at traffic department offices located within driving schools or through digital channels, including the ministry’s official website and the Metrash mobile application.

The ministry emphasized the critical importance of adhering to licensing rules, cautioning that driving without a valid licence not only breaches legal requirements but also endangers public safety and all road users throughout Qatar.
