The Supreme Court of Pakistan is set to welcome a senior delegation from Turkiye’s Constitutional Court from April 6 to 9. During this visit, both nations will formalize a judicial cooperation agreement through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The delegation will be led by Kadir Ozkaya, President of Turkiye’s top court, accompanied by judges and senior officials. The MoU signing ceremony is scheduled for April 6 at the Supreme Court.
This agreement aims to establish a comprehensive framework to foster collaboration between the superior courts of Pakistan and Turkiye. The focus will be on judicial exchanges, capacity building, and sharing best practices in adjudication. It underscores the mutual dedication to strengthening constitutional governance, upholding the rule of law, and safeguarding judicial independence.
Notably, the MoU seeks to deepen institutional ties between the two countries’ judicial systems. A significant aspect includes professional development initiatives within the judiciary, especially targeting the district level. These efforts will encompass joint training programs, academic exchanges, and exposure to comparative judicial methods.
Moreover, the cooperation intends to promote the adoption of modern technologies within judicial processes to improve efficiency, transparency, and access to justice. The agreement also provides for the creation of a joint working group tasked with ensuring ongoing engagement and effective implementation of the collaboration.
During their stay, the Turkish delegation will hold high-level meetings and interact with key figures in Pakistan’s justice sector. Discussions will revolve around current challenges in adjudication, judicial administration, and reform efforts underway.
In addition to official meetings, the visitors will tour historic sites such as Taxila and the Walled City of Lahore, emphasizing Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and fostering people-to-people connections.
The MoU signing event will be broadcast live and attended by judges from the Supreme Court and Federal Constitutional Court, chief justices of high courts, senior government officials, and members of the legal community.
This visit forms part of broader initiatives by Pakistan’s Supreme Court to develop a modern, efficient, and responsive justice system aligned with international standards, ultimately aimed at enhancing public confidence and access to justice.
