The Punjab government introduced a comprehensive petrol relief package on Saturday in response to the recent surge in petroleum prices. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the initiative aimed at alleviating the financial strain on residents across the province.

Key elements of the package include free public transportation throughout Punjab and the waiver of motorcycle registration and transfer fees. Furthermore, registered motorcycle owners will benefit from a fuel subsidy providing Rs100 per litre on up to 20 litres monthly, totaling Rs2,000 in support.

This relief scheme has been implemented immediately, with multiple application channels available for eligible motorcycle owners. They can apply by calling the helpline 1000, visiting the official web portal mkb.punjab.gov.pk, or using the mobile app “Maryam Ke Batain.”

Additional measures target the agricultural sector, offering farmers a diesel subsidy of Rs100 per litre per acre. Financial aid will also be extended to wheat growers possessing up to 25 acres of land. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the government’s commitment to easing economic pressures on ordinary citizens and supporting farmers.

Meanwhile, the federal government announced a reduction in petrol prices to Rs378 per litre, effective from midnight. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation, confirming that this price cut will last for one month as a temporary relief to the public. Alongside the fuel price adjustment, the Prime Minister declared austerity measures, including the suspension of cabinet members’ salaries and privileges for the next six months.
