In a tragic incident on Saturday, a 25-year-old female doctor was fatally shot inside a vehicle on the Hazara Motorway. The victim, Anila Bibi, was traveling with her mother from Islamabad to Abbottabad when the attack occurred. The suspect, Shahzad, who resides in Mansehra, opened fire after she declined his proposal to marry him as a second wife.
police reports, the mother accompanying Anila remained unharmed during the shooting. The suspect’s motive was reportedly rooted in his desire to wed Anila despite already being married. When she refused, Shahzad resorted to violence, fatally wounding the young doctor.
In a significant development following the shooting, Shahzad attempted to take his own life by shooting himself in the throat. Both the victim and the assailant were rushed to the Trauma Centre in Haripur. While Anila succumbed to her injuries at the scene, Shahzad was initially treated at the Trauma Centre before being transferred to Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad, where he remains in critical condition.
The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Kot Najibullah police station, which has launched a formal investigation into the case. This tragic event has raised concerns about the safety of women professionals and the dangers they face from unwanted advances and proposals.
