Social activist and lawyer Umme Rubab Chandio has raised alarm over her personal safety by revealing a confirmed assassination plot against her. She shared this alarming information on her official Facebook page, asserting that certain elements within the Sindh Police might be aiding those behind the conspiracy.
The revelation has ignited widespread concern on social media, with supporters demanding immediate security measures and a comprehensive inquiry into the matter. Despite the gravity of the allegations, law enforcement agencies have yet to issue any official statement or response.
Umme Rubab Chandio is known for her outspoken stance on justice and accountability issues. Her recent claims have once again highlighted the risks faced by vocal public figures in Pakistan. Authorities remain silent as the situation unfolds.
In a significant development related to her case, on January 17, 2018, armed assailants attacked a residence in Mehar, Sindh, killing Umme Rubab’s father, grandfather, and uncle. The victims included Raees Karamullah Chandio, then chairman of the Baldia Union Council in Mehar taluka, along with his two sons—Mukhtiar Chandio, a district council member, and another son linked to the Tumandar Council.
The family alleges that the attack was orchestrated by Sardar Ahmed Chandio, a tribal leader in Mehar, and his younger brother Burhan Chandio, who was serving as an aide to the Sindh chief minister at that time. Despite receiving death threats, Umme Rubab has persistently pursued justice for her slain relatives.
The case attracted national attention in 2021 when a video showing a barefoot Umme Rubab exiting a courtroom went viral on social media. She publicly accused the Sindh government of shielding those responsible for the murders. Meanwhile, all accused in the Mehar triple murder case were acquitted, further complicating the pursuit of justice.
