Hollywood Vampires Sued Over Cancelled Slovakia Concert in 2023

Johnny Depp’s rock supergroup Hollywood Vampires is embroiled in a legal dispute following the cancellation of their 2023 concert in Slovakia. The band, which features Depp alongside Alice Cooper and Joe Perry, has been sued in a federal court in Texas by a promoter who alleges breach of contract after the event was called off.

The lawsuit concerns a show scheduled for July 2023 at Olympic Fields in Slovakia. The promoter claims he paid the band $277,000 in advance for the performance but never received a refund after the concert was abruptly canceled. Despite repeated attempts to recover the funds, the promoter says the band failed to reimburse him.

Notably, the promoter disputes the band’s explanation that the cancellation was due to venue-related issues. Instead, the complaint asserts the real cause was “personal reasons unrelated to the venue,” referencing reports that Depp had been hospitalized for an undisclosed medical condition at the time.

The cancellation reportedly inflicted significant financial harm on the promoter and damaged his standing in the industry. The lawsuit states that the promoter was left appearing “unreliable in the industry” and suffered monetary losses as a result.

At the time of the cancellation, Hollywood Vampires issued a statement on July 20, 2023, claiming, “Upon arrival today to the venue in Slovakia to begin set up for tonight’s performance, it quickly became clear that the construction of the facility was incomplete, and therefore unsafe for both the band and the general public.”

In a significant development, the promoter’s lawsuit challenges this explanation and seeks compensation for the financial and reputational damages caused by the canceled concert.
