In a serious incident in Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Asif Malik, a distinguished urologist at Peshawar General Hospital (PGH), sustained critical injuries following a targeted shooting outside his residence in University Town, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The attack occurred on Circular Road when unidentified armed assailants opened fire on Dr. Malik, leaving him gravely wounded.

He was promptly transported to a nearby medical facility where he continues to receive intensive care. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) at Town Police Station based on a complaint filed by Dr. Malik’s son. Authorities have launched preliminary investigations to track down the attackers.

The Young Doctors Association (YDA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa strongly condemned the violent assault, emphasizing that it took place as Dr. Malik was returning from his hospital duties. The association highlighted that the attack not only endangers a senior and respected medical professional but also raises alarming concerns about the overall safety of healthcare workers in the region.

In a formal statement, the YDA called on the provincial government and law enforcement agencies to swiftly apprehend those responsible and ensure they face the full extent of the law. The association also urged for the immediate enforcement of the Health Professionals Protection Act and the implementation of robust security measures to safeguard doctors and prevent similar incidents in the future.
