Adam Zampa Chooses PSL Over IPL 2026 Citing Better Prospects

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has revealed the reasons behind his decision to participate in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) instead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the 2026 season. Known for his effective googly and international success, Zampa explained that IPL franchises showed little interest in him this year, and the financial rewards did not justify the extensive time commitment the IPL demands.

Speaking on a podcast, Zampa candidly stated that, given his particular skill set, the IPL’s monetary incentives were not comparable to those offered to players with other abilities. He felt that dedicating the required time to the IPL was not a sensible choice under these circumstances. Furthermore, he mentioned that he was not prominently considered by IPL teams, which led him to withdraw from the mini-auction rather than risk being picked at a low price.

In a significant development, Zampa was recently drafted by Karachi Kings for the PSL 2026 season. This opportunity arose unexpectedly just as he was planning to take a break from cricket to spend time with his family. He shared that the PSL offer came into focus about a month ago and everything progressed rapidly, but he is enjoying the experience so far.

On the field, Zampa has made an impressive start with Karachi Kings, delivering economical bowling performances and playing a key role in tightly contested matches against strong bowling lineups. He commended the high competitive standard of the PSL, noting that some teams feature bowling attacks nearly at the level of international cricket.

Notably, Zampa highlighted Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi for his exciting and wicket-taking bowling. He also acknowledged his friendship with Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf, reflecting his positive connections within the league.
