Milly Alcock Reacts to Jason Momoa’s Role in New Supergirl Trailer

The full trailer for the upcoming Supergirl series was released today, revealing Milly Alcock in a powerful new superhero costume and introducing Jason Momoa as the intergalactic mercenary Lobo. The footage also features a surprise return by David Corenswet as Superman. Directed by James Gunn, the story centers on Kara Zor-El, who reluctantly teams up with unexpected allies to confront a formidable enemy.

The supporting cast includes David Krumholtz portraying Zor-El and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills. Early scenes suggest a strong dramatic dynamic between Alcock and Momoa’s characters. Alcock, 25, who previously starred in House of the Dragon, spoke candidly about the fan discussions surrounding Momoa’s casting and Lobo’s redesign, which has stirred debate online about the direction of the DC Universe reboot.

She expressed unwavering confidence in Momoa’s portrayal, highlighting his long-standing enthusiasm for the role and his intense physicality. Alcock emphasized that the cast is committed to respecting the original material while offering a fresh take for today’s viewers. Drawing from her experience playing young Rhaenyra Targaryen, she reflected on the heightened scrutiny female leads often face in the superhero genre, noting the persistent commentary on women’s presence in such roles.

“Simply existing as a woman in this space invites commentary,” Alcock remarked, acknowledging the uncomfortable sense of ownership some audiences feel over female bodies. She added that while she cannot control such reactions, she remains true to herself. When questioned about prominent directors like Ridley Scott and Martin Scorsese, who have criticized superhero films, Alcock chose to respect diverse artistic opinions rather than defend the genre, stating, “Not every film is for everyone.”
