Karachi officials have initiated extensive preparations in anticipation of the forthcoming rainfall, implementing comprehensive strategies to manage any rain-related emergencies effectively. Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has instructed all deputy commissioners, municipal authorities, cantonment boards, the Water and Sewerage Corporation, town administrations, health services, solid waste management, and K-Electric to maintain heightened vigilance.

Departments have been mandated to ensure complete readiness to address any emergency situations arising during the rainy period. Additionally, the commissioner has required all deputy commissioners and relevant agencies to promptly submit detailed contingency plans to his office for review and coordination.

In a significant development, a central rescue helpline has been established at the commissioner’s office to provide rapid assistance during emergencies. Residents can access support by dialing helpline 1299. Furthermore, all deputy commissioners have been directed to activate control rooms within their offices and set up dedicated help desks to assist the public throughout the expected rainfall.

These proactive measures aim to reduce disruptions and facilitate a unified response across Karachi amid the approaching adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall, wind, and thunderstorms across Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Sindh, and Azad Kashmir from April 1 to April 4. Specifically, Sindh, including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, is expected to experience rain accompanied by wind, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms between April 2 and April 4.

The weather agency also noted that daytime temperatures are likely to decrease nationwide, with the weather system potentially continuing beyond April 4.
