Rawalpindi police have formally registered a case following the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman, a mother of two, inside a passenger van. The incident reportedly took place as the woman was en route from Chak Beli Mor to Rawat Bazaar for shopping.
the First Information Report (FIR), after the woman boarded the van, the driver, identified as Sultan, diverted the vehicle back toward Chak Beli. When the victim raised an alarm, the conductor restrained her. Another suspect, also named Sultan, was apprehended near Chak Beli Mor. The suspects then allegedly took the van to a house near the Bagh Shaikhan area, attempting to force the woman inside.
When she resisted and again raised an alarm, a suspect named Aaqil reportedly covered her mouth with a cloth. The FIR states that the suspects drove around the Bagh Shaikhan village area while repeatedly assaulting the woman inside the vehicle. Eventually, the suspects dropped her back at Chak Beli Mor at approximately 4:30 pm.
Notably, the FIR reveals that the perpetrators recorded videos and took photographs of the victim during the assault. In a significant development, days after the incident, one of the suspects contacted the woman, threatening to release the footage on social media if she reported the crime to authorities.
The victim informed her husband about the ordeal, but he allegedly advised her to keep silent. Police confirmed that the incident occurred prior to the month of Ramadan. Meanwhile, local residents initially sought to resolve the matter through a jirga, which delayed the formal police report.
Authorities have initiated a medical examination of the victim, with investigations progressing based on the evidence gathered so far.
