Comedian Alex Duong passed away on March 28 at the age of 42 after a prolonged struggle with a rare and aggressive cancer. His close friend Hilarie Steele announced the news through a heartfelt message on GoFundMe, revealing that Duong died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones and free from pain.
Steele shared that despite the progression of his illness, Duong was able to say farewell to his 5-year-old daughter, Everest, whom he cherished deeply. He shared Everest with his wife, Christina, and treasured every moment with his daughter since her birth. The message expressed profound grief but also gratitude for the outpouring of support, prayers, and generosity from friends and fans during this difficult time.
Duong was diagnosed in 2025 with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer affecting soft tissue, which eventually caused him to lose vision in his left eye. Prior to his diagnosis, he was scheduled to perform across 41 states throughout 2025, with some shows featuring Daily Show correspondent Ronny Chieng.
Throughout his illness, Duong highlighted the strength of the comedy community, emphasizing how comedians support one another through hardships. He described their bond as a beautiful and resilient aspect of their lifestyle, noting how they endure struggles to keep refining their craft and bringing humor to the world.
