Varun Dhawan has disclosed that prior to his entry into Hindi cinema, he harbored aspirations of breaking into Hollywood, hoping to be introduced by the iconic director Steven Spielberg. On a recent episode of Be A Man, Yaar!, the Student of the Year star revealed that acting was always his passion, although his father, filmmaker David Dhawan, initially doubted his ambitions.
He recalled his mother telling him that his father would not launch him as an actor but would only collaborate once he had established himself as a star. This perspective motivated Varun to work diligently and not depend solely on his family’s film legacy. He pursued formal training by enrolling in several acting classes to hone his craft independently.
In a significant development, Varun shared that his original plan was to make his debut in Hollywood, aiming to impress his father by being launched either by Steven Spielberg or Anurag Kashyap. He believed these two names would have truly surprised his father. However, his father was equally astonished when Karan Johar introduced him to the industry.
Varun Dhawan officially began his acting career in 2012 with the film Student of the Year, which became a commercial hit and established him as a promising new talent in Bollywood. Before stepping in front of the camera, he gained valuable experience working as an assistant director to Karan Johar on the film My Name Is Khan.
