Glen Powell has been announced as the voice of Fox McCloud in the upcoming “Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” marking a significant addition to the film’s expanding voice cast. This casting introduces a prominent Nintendo character from the Star Fox series into the anime sequel, signaling a broader inclusion of Nintendo’s universe beyond the core Mario characters.
Powell revealed his involvement through a social media post, generating excitement among fans. Known for his roles in action-packed films, Powell’s energetic and dynamic persona aligns well with Fox McCloud, the space pilot hero. This choice reflects the movie’s intention to deepen its connection with Nintendo’s wider roster of characters.
The film already features Chris Pratt as Mario and Charlie Day as Luigi, maintaining familiar voices for the iconic brothers. Fox McCloud, first appearing in 1993 on the Super Nintendo with the original Star Fox game, has since starred in titles such as Star Fox 64, Star Fox Adventures, Star Fox: Assault, Star Fox: Command, and the unreleased Star Fox 2 from 2017. Additionally, Fox is widely recognized as a staple fighter in the Super Smash Bros. series, appearing since the 1999 Nintendo 64 release alongside Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi.
Fox McCloud’s inclusion hints at a potential Super Smash Bros. crossover within the movie. Earlier teasers featured a Pikmin connected to Captain Olimar, another beloved character from the Smash Bros. franchise. This raises speculation about whether other Nintendo heroes like Samus or Captain Falcon might also appear in the film.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to premiere in theaters on April 1. Glen Powell’s addition brings fresh energy to an already star-studded cast and is one of the most talked-about developments in the project so far.
