Moscow has initiated the transfer of sophisticated drones along with vital satellite intelligence to Tehran, signaling a notable intensification in military collaboration between the two nations as regional tensions persist.
Western security officials reveal that Russia has moved beyond mere diplomatic exchanges to actively support Iran on the battlefield. This assistance includes providing targeting information and aerospace imagery aimed at enhancing Iran’s ability to monitor U.S. and Israeli military assets throughout the Middle East.
In a strategic development centered around the Caspian Sea, this growing partnership seems to be a reciprocal arrangement, following years during which Iran supplied drones to Russia for its operations in Ukraine.
Intelligence reports indicate that the current deliveries feature the Geran-2 drone, a Russian-modified version of the Shahed-136. This model incorporates improved navigation and anti-jamming technologies, which Iran is reportedly eager to reverse-engineer.
Although Moscow has dismissed these claims as fabricated, the Israeli Defence Forces have reportedly taken direct action to disrupt these supply chains by targeting maritime routes in the Caspian Sea used for transporting the military equipment.
Despite the increased flow of hardware, Russia has reportedly declined Iran’s request for the advanced S-400 air defense system. Instead, Moscow has opted to supply man-portable Verba missiles, a decision likely aimed at preserving its limited diplomatic channels with Washington.
