The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is gearing up for a significant shift as the Multan Sultans prepare to make a notable comeback in the upcoming 2026 season. This development follows a strategic franchise rebranding that has gained considerable traction, signaling a fresh chapter for one of the league’s most popular teams. The transformation involves the Sialkot Stallionz franchise, which is set to be renamed and repositioned under new management.
CD Ventures, a prominent business group, has officially approached the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with a formal request to rename the recently introduced Sialkot Stallionz franchise as the Multan Sultans. This move is anticipated to be ratified by the PCB shortly, with an official announcement expected to confirm the revival of the South Punjab-based team. The return of the Multan Sultans is being welcomed enthusiastically by fans, who have long associated the team with a strong regional identity and passionate support.
The rebranding initiative comes in the wake of significant changes in the ownership structure of the Sialkot franchise. Initially, OZ Developers were awarded the rights to the Sialkot Stallionz as part of the PSL’s expansion efforts. However, financial challenges reportedly hindered their ability to sustain the franchise effectively. This paved the way for CD Ventures, led by entrepreneur Gohar Shah, to acquire near-complete ownership and take the reins. Rather than building a new brand from the ground up, the new owners have opted to resurrect the well-established Multan Sultans brand, which already enjoys a loyal fan base and strong market presence.
It is important to note that the Multan Sultans name became available after the previous franchise operating under this banner underwent a rebranding process, emerging as the Rawalpindi team following a change in ownership involving Walee Technologies. This transition left a gap in the league for a South Punjab team with a recognizable identity. By reinstating the Multan Sultans, the PSL not only restores a beloved team but also strengthens the league’s connection with the South Punjab region, providing a clear home-ground advantage and a compelling narrative for supporters.
Salman Naseer, the CEO of the Pakistan Super League, has hinted that the league will soon disclose further details regarding the new ownership and the official identity of the franchise. Cricket enthusiasts and PSL followers across the country are eagerly awaiting this confirmation, hopeful that the Multan Sultans will once again become a formidable contender in the league. This development is expected to inject fresh excitement into the PSL, enhancing competition and fan engagement as the 2026 season approaches.
