Phil Mickelson has decided to forgo this week’s LIV Golf event in Virginia, focusing instead on the upcoming PGA Championship. The PGA of America officially announced its 154-player lineup for the tournament scheduled from May 14 to 17, confirming Mickelson’s participation at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
As a distinguished two-time winner of the PGA Championship, Mickelson benefits from a lifetime exemption that guarantees his entry into the prestigious event. This exemption underscores his enduring legacy in the sport and allows him to compete regardless of recent form or rankings.
Notably, the 55-year-old golfer has only competed in one LIV Golf tournament this season, citing a family health matter as the reason for his limited appearances. His sole outing was at LIV Golf South Africa in March, where he finished tied for 48th place. Subsequently, Mickelson also opted out of the Masters Tournament, an event where he has triumphed three times in his career.
Meanwhile, Scott Vincent will take Mickelson’s place at this week’s LIV Golf event held at Trump National Golf Club in Washington, D.C. Vincent, who serves as captain of the HyFlyers GC team, will step in to fill the void left by Mickelson’s absence. This development highlights the ongoing adjustments within the LIV Golf circuit as players manage their schedules amid competing commitments and personal considerations.
