The Toronto Blue Jays continue their three-game series against the visiting Boston Red Sox, aiming to secure a series win with George Springer potentially rejoining the lineup. Toronto halted Boston’s three-game winning streak with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday, showcasing strong pitching and solid defense.
Springer has been sidelined due to a broken left big toe sustained on April 11 after fouling off a pitch against Minnesota. He has since resumed hitting and running drills, and manager John Schneider indicated Springer could be activated from the injured list as soon as Wednesday if his progress remains positive.
Expected to return as the designated hitter, Springer is likely to stabilize the leadoff position. While he anticipates some lingering discomfort over the next few weeks, he remains confident in his timing at the plate. “I know it’s going to be there, and it is what it is,” Springer remarked. “My swing was in a good place, not bad for not being out there for a while. So I’ll take it for sure.”
Before the injury, Springer held a batting average of .185 with two home runs and six RBIs, though he played a significant role in Toronto’s impressive 2025 regular season and postseason performance.
For the upcoming game, Boston plans to start right-hander Brayan Bello, while Toronto is expected to counter with left-hander Eric Lauer. The Red Sox have struggled offensively throughout the series, failing to score after the fourth inning on Tuesday and being shut out for the third time this season.
Additionally, Toronto may see the return of right-hander Trey Yesavage, who recently came off the injured list, as the team gradually reintegrates key players. Manager Schneider emphasized that the return of injured athletes is helping the Blue Jays regain their rhythm and overall stability as the season progresses.
