In the fourth encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gujarat Titans managed a modest total of 162 runs, with their top batsman Sudharsan contributing only 13 runs off 11 balls. Despite this underwhelming performance, former Gujarat Titans captain Priyank Panchal expressed continued faith in Sudharsan’s abilities for upcoming matches.
Panchal shared his thoughts on social media platform X, noting that Sudharsan appeared in excellent form last season but has struggled since the England tour. He suggested that the player might benefit from participating in all formats of domestic cricket, similar to Devdutt Padikkal, to regain his confidence and form ahead of the playoffs.
The response to Panchal’s comments was largely supportive, with many fans highlighting Sudharsan’s consistent contributions as Gujarat Titans’ reliable ‘Road Warrior.’ One fan pointed out that Marco Jansen’s exceptional opening bowling spell was a key factor in limiting Sudharsan’s impact, emphasizing that even a strong work ethic cannot always overcome such challenges.
However, some supporters expressed frustration over team management decisions, criticizing the underutilization of Sudharsan and fellow player Nair. They argued that the management’s indecisiveness has negatively affected the form and confidence of these talented players. Additionally, concerns were raised about Devdutt Padikkal’s form not translating into a return to the national team.
Meanwhile, the match between Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings ultimately favored the latter. Led by skipper Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings successfully restricted Gujarat Titans to 162 runs. Cooper Connolly’s impressive innings of 62 runs played a crucial role in securing a 10-run victory for Punjab Kings. At one point, Punjab Kings required just 4 runs from 8 balls to seal the win.
