In a significant development ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 11, Peshawar Zalmi have strengthened their coaching team by naming former national captain Azhar Ali as their new fielding coach. The franchise announced this addition shortly after the tournament’s opening match, expressing enthusiasm about integrating Azhar’s expertise into their squad.
The team highlighted Azhar Ali’s extensive international experience and his calm, disciplined approach to the game. Known for his compact technique and remarkable patience, Azhar is expected to bring a composed mindset that will enhance the fielding standards and overall intensity of the Zalmi players on the field. The franchise warmly welcomed him into the Zalmi family, emphasizing their commitment to raising performance levels this season.
Peshawar Zalmi are scheduled to kick off their PSL 11 campaign against newcomers Rawalpindi on Saturday at the Gaddafi Stadium. Although Azhar Ali has had a distinguished international career, his participation in the PSL as a player was limited to the league’s inaugural season. During that edition, he represented Lahore Qalandars, playing seven matches and scoring 183 runs with a strike rate of 106.39. He also recorded one half-century and served as the team’s captain that season.
