Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need for intensified cooperation between Pakistan and China in the pharmaceutical industry, highlighting that Chinese investment and expertise could significantly enhance local medicine manufacturing, increase exports, and improve access to affordable medications.
Speaking at the Pakistan-China Pharmaceutical Conference, the prime minister praised China as Pakistan’s most dependable and sincere ally, noting Beijing’s unwavering support during challenging times. He described China as Islamabad’s most trusted partner, standing firm through every difficulty.
In a significant development, PM Shehbaz highlighted the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a vital link fostering shared growth and prosperity between the two nations. He referred to CPEC as a bridge of progress connecting the brotherly countries, stressing that collaboration in pharmaceutical production is crucial for Pakistan’s economic growth and public health goals.
The prime minister welcomed Chinese investments in the pharmaceutical sector and expressed Pakistan’s desire to fully leverage China’s technological know-how, manufacturing capabilities, and financial resources. He also touched upon recent regional tensions, acknowledging Pakistan’s role in preventing escalation into broader conflict.
PM Shehbaz credited Pakistan’s leadership, including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for mediating between Iran and the United States, which culminated in the Islamabad memorandum of understanding. This diplomatic effort helped maintain regional stability.
He stressed that closer ties would support domestic medicine production and enable Pakistan to expand its pharmaceutical exports. The prime minister highlighted ongoing efforts to promote business-to-business partnerships with China within the pharmaceutical field.
Joint ventures between Pakistani and Chinese companies were described as potential milestones that could reduce Pakistan’s reliance on imported drugs and raw materials. Such collaboration is expected to make medicines more affordable for the public.
Reaffirming the strong bond between Islamabad and Beijing, PM Shehbaz stated that the prosperity and interests of both countries are deeply interconnected. “China’s happiness is connected with Pakistan’s happiness,” he remarked, underscoring the enduring friendship and mutual support between the two nations.
