Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held talks with FBI Director Kash Patel in Washington on Monday, focusing on enhancing collaboration in counterterrorism, cyber investigations, and law enforcement efforts. The discussions emphasized joint strategies to prevent terrorist financing and improve coordination by allocating necessary resources.
During the meeting at FBI headquarters, Patel highlighted the critical need to deepen security and law enforcement cooperation between Pakistan and the United States. Both officials agreed on strengthening ties to address evolving threats effectively.
Meanwhile, regional security concerns remained prominent amid escalating tensions in the Gulf. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) released footage showing drone boats targeting Iranian naval facilities, reporting that three unmanned surface vessels struck Iran’s Bandar Abbas naval base. CENTCOM stated the operation diminished Iran’s ability to conduct attacks using naval assets.
In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s role as the protector of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime route. He asserted that commercial vessels passing through the strait should pay a transit fee, criticizing a proposed 20 percent charge as excessive and promising a more reasonable rate.
The Strait of Hormuz continues to be a strategic chokepoint, central to global maritime trade and regional security dynamics.
