The Tehreek Tahaffuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) has declared plans for nationwide demonstrations on Friday to protest against escalating inflation, steep increases in petroleum prices, and the refusal to transfer Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to a hospital. The protests will also demand the release of political detainees.
TTAP Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai stated that the decision emerged from a leadership summit of the opposition alliance, where members agreed to launch countrywide protests in response to deteriorating economic conditions, rising lawlessness, and political repression.
In a significant development, Imran Khan has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a severe eye condition that blocks the main vein draining blood from the retina. This diagnosis was presented to the Supreme Court by his lawyer and the court’s amicus curiae, Salman Safdar. CRVO is often linked to cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease.
Speaking outside Parliament House on Tuesday, PTI leader Asad Qaiser revealed that the parliamentary party had endorsed the opposition alliance’s four-point agenda and committed to fully implementing its decisions. He also announced the opposition’s plan to block the passage of the upcoming federal budget, accusing the government of suppressing opposition voices and rendering parliament ineffective.
Qaiser condemned the treatment of political prisoners, including lawyer Iman Mazari, alleging they were facing injustice. He emphasized the demand for cases against Imran Khan to be decided fairly and called for the immediate hospital transfer of both Khan and Bushra Bibi. “We seek justice, not a deal like Nawaz Sharif,” he asserted.
Further criticizing the government, Qaiser highlighted the country’s ongoing terrorism challenges and labeled the foreign policy as incompetent. He pointed out the closure of industries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and urged the government to reverse recent hikes in petroleum prices. Additionally, he demanded an end to restrictions on flour, gas, and CNG supplies.
