Field Marshal Asim Munir, serving as both Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, is set to deliver a keynote address at the ceremony commemorating the first anniversary of the Marka-e-Haq victory. The event will take place at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi tomorrow, Sunday, commencing at 8:40 a.m.
The ceremony will be attended by senior military officials, including Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf. Activities planned for the occasion include a wreath-laying at the martyrs’ monument and a tri-services salute, honoring those who served during the conflict.
Marka-e-Haq, meaning ‘battle of truth,’ refers to the 19-day military engagement between Pakistan and India from April 22 to May 10, 2025. The conflict was triggered by an unprovoked Indian attack on May 6-7, following an assault on tourists in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. During the intense 87-hour confrontation, Pakistan successfully downed eight Indian fighter jets, including French-made Rafale aircraft, along with numerous drones.
The hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbors concluded on May 10 with a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States. Earlier this week, Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry emphasized Pakistan’s preparedness for future conflicts, asserting that the military had not underestimated India but had accurately assessed its position. He highlighted that Pakistan’s forces overcame an adversary five times their size and described India as a “terrorist state.” These remarks were made during a press conference held alongside Rear Admiral Shifaat Ali Khan and Air Vice Marshal Tariq Ghazi to mark the anniversary.
In a related development, the Islamabad Traffic Police issued a public advisory ahead of the anniversary event scheduled for May 10, 2026. The advisory, shared by the Islamabad deputy commissioner on social media platform X, announced temporary traffic diversions across several major routes in the capital. These measures will be in effect from 6 p.m. to midnight to facilitate the smooth conduct of the commemorative activities.
