Pakistan Joins Global Parliamentary Training Body, To Host 2027 Conference

The Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) has reached a significant milestone in enhancing parliamentary capacity by becoming a member of the interim steering committee of the Global Parliamentary Training Institutes (PTIs). This committee also includes the Inter-Parliamentary Union along with representatives from Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, and Thailand.

Under the leadership of Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, who also serves as President of the PIPS Board of Governors, and Executive Director Asim Khan Goraya, Pakistan secured this important position. In a notable development, PIPS has been chosen to host the second Global Conference of PTIs in Islamabad, scheduled for 3 to 5 February 2027, in partnership with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The decisions were finalized during the inaugural PTIs conference held in Accra, Ghana, on 23–24 March 2026. Although the PIPS executive director and his team were unable to attend in person due to austerity measures announced by the prime minister, they participated virtually. These advancements underscore Pakistan’s growing role as a proactive participant in international parliamentary cooperation, democratic institution-building, and legislative capacity enhancement.

Hosting the upcoming conference in Islamabad will provide Pakistan with an opportunity to highlight its parliamentary achievements, foster collaboration with global training bodies, and actively engage in discussions on strengthening democracy, improving legislative professionalism, and advancing capacity building.
