In a coordinated effort to promote environmental awareness, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have called on the people of Pakistan to participate in Earth Hour on Saturday, 28 March 2026. They urged citizens to turn off non-essential lights from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, transforming this symbolic hour into a powerful step toward lasting ecological progress.

President Zardari emphasized the importance of using this hour not only to conserve energy but also as a moment for reflecting on sustainable lifestyles. He conveyed this message through the social media platform X, encouraging the public to embrace the hour as a catalyst for environmental mindfulness.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the Earth Hour theme, “Give an Hour for Earth,” describing it as a vital duty for all citizens. He stressed that in a time marked by severe environmental challenges, collective conscious actions like this are crucial for building a resilient future. The Prime Minister further remarked that Earth Hour serves as a global pause to renew commitment toward protecting the planet.

In a significant development, several prominent landmarks in the capital, including the President House, Parliament House, and the Pakistan Monument, will switch off their lights to set an example. This symbolic act is part of the government’s broader climate-resilient development strategy, which encompasses initiatives such as the Upscaling Green Pakistan Programme and the Living Indus Initiative.

By combining these symbolic gestures with concrete policy measures, the administration aims to reduce the impacts of climate change and safeguard future generations from escalating environmental threats. This nationwide participation in Earth Hour reflects Pakistan’s dedication to fostering sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
