Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem convened a high-level meeting on Friday to assess the advancement of various police IT projects and to discuss the expansion of digital services designed to benefit citizens. This initiative aligns with the directives issued by the Chief Minister of Punjab, aiming to modernize policing and improve public access to police services through technology.
The meeting featured comprehensive briefings on ongoing digitalization efforts within the Punjab Police, focusing on enhancing citizen facilitation and streamlining police operations. The Managing Director of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, along with the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Information Technology, presented detailed updates on current projects and outlined future reforms centered on IT integration in law enforcement.
One of the key highlights was the expansion of the Pakistan Police App, which is being upgraded to offer a wider range of digital services. This platform will enable citizens to file online reports, track the status of their cases, and verify important documents without the need to visit police stations physically. The IGP emphasized the importance of updating police regulations to support these technological advancements, ensuring that the digital policing framework remains robust and user-friendly.
Further developments include the introduction of online registration for missing person reports through Police Khidmat Marakaz, allowing individuals to submit and monitor their complaints remotely. In partnership with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the police will facilitate online verification of critical documents such as national identity cards, passports, and educational certificates, thereby reducing bureaucratic hurdles and enhancing transparency.
The spokesperson for Punjab Police highlighted that these digital services will provide citizens with real-time updates on the progress of missing person cases, First Information Reports (FIRs), and other investigation statuses directly from their homes. This initiative is expected to significantly improve communication between the police and the public, fostering greater trust and efficiency.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Additional Inspector Generals responsible for Investigation, Logistics and Procurement, and Operations, alongside the Managing Director of Safe Cities, DIG Traffic, DIG Logistics and Procurement, and Assistant Inspector General of IT. Their collective expertise and collaboration underscore the Punjab Police’s commitment to leveraging technology for enhanced law enforcement and citizen engagement.
