The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has severely disrupted air travel, leading to the cancellation of 145 flights from Pakistan for the sixth consecutive day. This disruption reflects the broader aviation crisis gripping the region, where over 20,000 flights have been grounded across eight countries in just five days. The persistent instability has forced airlines and authorities to suspend numerous routes, particularly those connecting Pakistan to key Middle Eastern destinations.
Major Pakistani cities have borne the brunt of these cancellations. Karachi, the country’s busiest airport, saw 35 flights to the Middle East cancelled, while Lahore experienced 29 cancellations. Other cities including Multan, Islamabad, Peshawar, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Quetta have also been affected, with flight cancellations ranging from six to 35 per city. Notably, two flights from Quetta bound for Middle Eastern countries were also called off, underscoring the widespread impact across Pakistan’s aviation network.
These cancellations come amid heightened security concerns and the volatile situation in the Gulf region. Airports in Riyadh and Dammam have faced operational challenges due to ongoing attacks, leading to delays and cancellations. On a single day, Wednesday, 57 flights were cancelled and 46 others delayed at these Saudi airports, further complicating travel plans for passengers and airlines alike.
In response to the crisis, emergency evacuation efforts have been underway. Airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah have operated 167 special flights aimed at facilitating the safe departure of stranded individuals. Despite these efforts, air traffic in the Gulf remains heavily disrupted, with major hubs such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Doha experiencing significant operational setbacks.
The ripple effects of the conflict extend beyond Pakistan and the Gulf. Aviation data reveals that Iran has cancelled 240 flights, Iraq 215, Beirut 58, Haifa 25, and Tel Aviv 380 flights in recent days. This widespread suspension of air services highlights the escalating tensions across the Middle East and the profound impact on regional connectivity and international travel.
As the situation continues to evolve, passengers are advised to stay updated on flight statuses and prepare for potential delays or cancellations. The aviation sector remains on high alert as authorities monitor the security landscape, striving to balance safety concerns with the urgent need to maintain essential air links in the region.
