China Urges Immediate Halt to Israeli and US Military Actions Against Iran

In a firm diplomatic stance, China has voiced strong opposition to the recent military operations conducted by Israel and the United States targeting Iran. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed this message during a phone conversation with his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Saar, on Tuesday. Wang emphasized the urgent need for an immediate cessation of all hostilities, underscoring that the use of force rarely resolves conflicts but often exacerbates them, leading to enduring and complex consequences.

Wang elaborated that the true strength of military power should not be measured by battlefield victories but rather by its ability to prevent wars from erupting in the first place. This perspective reflects Beijing’s long-standing diplomatic approach, which prioritizes peaceful resolution through dialogue and negotiation over armed confrontation. The call came amid a tense backdrop of explosions rocking Tehran and Beirut, events that have sent shockwaves through global financial markets due to fears of prolonged disruptions in energy supplies stemming from the ongoing airstrikes.

The escalation of violence has raised concerns internationally, as the strikes threaten to destabilize an already volatile region. In his conversation with Saar, Wang reiterated China’s commitment to playing a constructive role in de-escalating tensions and fostering stability. He highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and urged Gulf countries to unite in resisting external interference that could further inflame the crisis.

This diplomatic outreach by Wang follows a series of high-level discussions earlier in the week. On Monday alone, the Chinese Foreign Minister engaged in talks with the foreign ministers of Iran, Oman, and France, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to defuse the situation. Additionally, Wang held a conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Sunday, reflecting the broader international concern over the unfolding conflict.

Notably, Wang has yet to establish direct communication with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio since the commencement of the Israeli and American military actions on Saturday. These strikes have reportedly resulted in the deaths of several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, marking a significant escalation in the conflict. The absence of dialogue between China and the United States at this critical juncture highlights the complexities and challenges facing diplomatic efforts to restore calm in the region.

As the situation continues to develop, China’s call for restraint and negotiation underscores the urgent need for all parties involved to seek peaceful solutions. The international community watches closely, hopeful that dialogue will prevail over further military confrontation, which could have far-reaching consequences for regional and global security.
