Rawalpindi Police Step Up Operations Against Illegal Afghan Nationals Amid Rising Concerns

In a renewed effort to enforce immigration laws and maintain public order, Rawalpindi police have escalated their operations targeting illegal Afghan nationals residing within the city. Over the past 24 hours, law enforcement officials carried out extensive search and verification drives across multiple neighborhoods, resulting in the detention of more than 57 Afghan men, women, and children who were found living without valid visas or proper documentation.

These intensified actions come as part of a broader crackdown aimed at addressing concerns related to undocumented foreigners and the challenges they pose to local administration. Police teams also focused on landlords and tenants, registering several cases against those who failed to comply with legal requirements for tenancy registration. The failure to officially document rental agreements has been identified as a key factor enabling illegal residency, prompting authorities to clamp down on such violations.

Under the provisions of the Foreigners Act, all detained individuals are now facing legal proceedings. Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with further measures expected to ensure that those residing unlawfully are either regularized or removed in accordance with the law. This move reflects the authorities’ commitment to uphold the rule of law and enhance security within Rawalpindi, a city that has seen a significant influx of Afghan nationals over recent years.

It is worth noting that the presence of undocumented migrants has been a sensitive issue in Pakistan, often linked to broader socio-economic and security concerns. The government has repeatedly emphasized the importance of proper documentation and legal residency status to prevent exploitation and maintain social harmony. By targeting both the undocumented individuals and the property owners who facilitate their stay, the police aim to dismantle networks that enable illegal habitation.

Meanwhile, residents of Rawalpindi have expressed mixed reactions to the crackdown. While some appreciate the efforts to restore order and reduce illegal settlements, others highlight the humanitarian aspects, calling for balanced approaches that consider the plight of vulnerable populations, including women and children. Authorities have assured that all actions are being conducted with respect to human rights and due process.

As the operation continues, police officials have urged landlords and tenants to comply with legal requirements and ensure all tenancy agreements are properly registered to avoid penalties. The crackdown serves as a reminder of the government’s ongoing efforts to regulate foreign nationals’ presence and maintain the city’s security and stability.
