The ongoing operation to safely repatriate Pakistani students and citizens from Iran has made significant progress, reflecting the commitment of the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Army to protect their nationals abroad. This initiative follows a recent attack in Iran that raised serious concerns about the safety of Pakistani students studying there. So far, 183 students have been successfully brought back to Quetta through the Taftan border crossing, marking a crucial step in ensuring their security and well-being.
Among those repatriated, the majority hail from Punjab, with 132 students returning home. Additionally, 22 students from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15 from Sindh, 10 from Gilgit-Baltistan, three from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and one from Balochistan have also been safely evacuated. This diverse representation highlights the widespread impact of the situation in Iran on Pakistani students across various provinces. The coordinated efforts between government agencies and the military have been instrumental in facilitating this complex operation.
On Monday alone, 62 students arrived in Quetta, comprising 42 men and 20 women. Shortly thereafter, another group of 121 students reached the city, including 41 men and 80 women. These students were enrolled in several prominent Iranian medical institutions, such as Tehran Medical College, Isfahan Medical College, Zanjan Medical College, and Yazd Medical College. Their return not only brings relief to their families but also underscores the importance of safeguarding Pakistani citizens studying abroad during times of crisis.
The families of the returning students have expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Army for their swift and effective response. Their appreciation reflects the reassurance felt by many Pakistanis that their government prioritizes the safety of its citizens, especially in volatile international environments. This repatriation effort is a testament to the strong coordination between diplomatic channels and military logistics.
Looking ahead, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure that any remaining Pakistani nationals in Iran can be brought back safely. The Government of Pakistan remains committed to providing all necessary support to its citizens overseas, particularly in emergency situations. This ongoing repatriation drive serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by students pursuing education abroad and the vital role of state institutions in protecting their rights and security.
