The District Administration of Khairpur has officially declared March 4, 2026, as a local holiday in observance of the annual Urs of Hazrat Sachal Sarmast, a revered Sufi saint whose spiritual legacy continues to inspire many. This announcement means that all government and semi-government offices within the district will remain closed for the day, allowing residents and visitors to participate fully in the commemorative events.

The Urs celebrations hold special significance this year as they mark the 205th anniversary of Hazrat Sachal Sarmast’s passing. Traditionally, the festivities begin on the 14th of Ramadan, attracting devotees from across the region who gather to pay homage through prayers, recitations, and cultural performances that highlight the saint’s teachings of love and tolerance. The holiday declaration facilitates wider community involvement in these spiritual observances.

In a related development, the Government of Sindh has announced two public holidays specifically for Hindu employees in the province, scheduled for March 3 and 4, 2026. These days off coincide with the vibrant festival of Holi, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Hindu community. This step underscores the provincial government’s recognition of religious diversity and its efforts to accommodate the cultural and religious practices of minority groups.

By granting these holidays, Sindh’s administration aims to foster an environment of mutual respect and inclusivity, allowing people from different faiths to observe their important occasions without hindrance. The dual announcements reflect a broader commitment within the province to uphold harmony and ensure that cultural and religious events are celebrated peacefully and with due reverence.

Overall, these holiday declarations not only honor significant spiritual and cultural milestones but also highlight Sindh’s ongoing dedication to embracing its rich tapestry of traditions. As the dates approach, preparations for the Urs and Holi festivities are expected to intensify, drawing participants from various backgrounds and reinforcing the province’s reputation as a place of coexistence and cultural vibrancy.
