In a significant stride towards enhancing Pakistan’s skilled workforce, over 300 students recently completed specialized training under the Prime Minister’s Overseas Employment Programme, managed by the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC). The culmination of this training was marked by a visa issuance ceremony held in Islamabad on Monday, symbolizing a crucial step for these young individuals as they prepare to seek employment opportunities abroad.

The event was graced by Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, who addressed the attendees with a strong call to action for overseas employment promoters. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between these promoters and the government to expand the scope of international job placements for Pakistani youth. Highlighting the role of these trainees as ambassadors of Pakistan, Rana Mashhood urged them to uphold professionalism and discipline, stating that their conduct and performance overseas would significantly influence the global perception of Pakistani manpower.

“Your skills and professionalism will not only shape your own futures but also enhance Pakistan’s reputation on the international stage,” he remarked, underscoring the dual responsibility carried by these young workers. This message resonated deeply as the trainees prepare to enter competitive foreign job markets, where their success could open doors for thousands more.

Adding further insight, Aamir Jan, Executive Director of NAVTTC, elaborated on the objectives of the program. He explained that the initiative is designed to equip Pakistani youth with specialized, market-relevant skills that meet the demands of overseas employers, thereby facilitating lucrative job placements. This batch, comprising over 300 skilled individuals, represents the second group to be deployed abroad under this scheme. Jan also noted that future training programs would be continuously refined to align more closely with evolving international labor market trends.

He candidly acknowledged the challenges faced by Pakistani workers overseas, including adapting to new environments and maintaining competitive standards. Despite these hurdles, he highlighted that overseas Pakistani labor remains a vital pillar of the national economy, contributing significantly through remittances that support millions of families back home.

Chairperson of NAVTTC, Gulmina Bilal, also addressed the ceremony, reflecting on the transformative journey of the commission. She pointed out that NAVTTC has evolved beyond its traditional role of merely regulating and providing training. Today, the commission’s success is measured by its ability to translate training into tangible employment outcomes. Bilal emphasized that the commission’s core mission is to produce job-ready youth who can seamlessly integrate into international workforces.

She urged the graduating students to embody Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and values in their professional conduct abroad, noting that their behavior would directly impact future demand for Pakistani workers. “Your attitude and professionalism will set the tone for how Pakistani labor is perceived worldwide,” she stated, reinforcing the importance of personal responsibility alongside technical skills.

Furthermore, Gulmina Bilal revealed that the Prime Minister has set an ambitious target of sending 10,000 Pakistani youth overseas for employment. To date, NAVTTC has initiated training for 5,000 candidates under this program, signaling a strong commitment to expanding this initiative. She also acknowledged that the program faced initial challenges due to its innovative nature but assured that continuous monitoring and independent evaluations are in place to maintain high training standards.

The ceremony was attended by policymakers, training officials, and the graduating students themselves, reflecting a broad-based commitment to the program’s success. This event not only celebrated the achievements of the current batch but also reinforced the government’s vision of empowering Pakistani youth through skill development and international employment opportunities, which are crucial for both individual prosperity and the country’s economic growth.
