In a tragic incident at Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore, two juvenile female deer lost their lives following an unexpected and violent attack by a male deer within one of the park’s enclosures. The park authorities confirmed the unfortunate event on Tuesday, highlighting the sudden aggression displayed by the male deer that led to severe injuries for the young females.

The incident took place inside a designated enclosure where the deer are housed for protection and public viewing. officials managing the park, the male deer, which had previously coexisted peacefully with the females, suddenly exhibited aggressive behavior without any apparent provocation. This abrupt change in temperament resulted in a brutal assault on the two juvenile females, who sustained critical wounds during the attack.

Park staff acted swiftly to intervene, separating the injured females from the male deer and providing immediate medical attention. Despite the prompt emergency care and first aid administered by the veterinary team on site, both juvenile females succumbed to their injuries, marking a somber day for the park’s animal care unit. The loss has raised concerns about the safety protocols in place for the animals residing within the park’s enclosures.

In response to the incident, the park administration has taken precautionary steps by isolating the male deer from the remaining female deer to prevent any further aggressive encounters. This measure aims to ensure the safety and well-being of the other deer and to maintain a peaceful environment within the enclosure. The authorities are also reviewing the conditions and monitoring the behavior of the animals more closely to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Jalil Ahmed, the Project Director of Bagh-e-Jinnah, stated that the exact cause behind the male deer’s sudden aggression remains unclear at this stage. He emphasized that a detailed post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the precise reasons for the deaths of the juvenile females and to understand any underlying health or behavioral issues that may have contributed to the attack. The findings of this report will guide future management and safety protocols within the park.

Bagh-e-Jinnah, a historic and popular green space in Lahore, is home to various species of flora and fauna, including deer that attract numerous visitors. This unfortunate event has brought attention to the challenges of managing wildlife in urban parks, where animal behavior can sometimes be unpredictable. Authorities are now considering additional measures to enhance animal welfare and visitor safety while preserving the natural habitat within the park.
