Karachi continued to endure scorching weather on Wednesday, with the feels-like temperature soaring to 49°C due to elevated humidity levels as the ongoing heatwave persists across parts of the country. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) recorded an actual temperature of 37°C in Karachi, accompanied by a relative humidity of 56%.
In a significant development, the Met Office had issued a heatwave alert last week for several regions, cautioning that these extreme conditions are likely to remain in effect until June 12. The PMD’s advisory issued on Saturday highlighted that Karachi would experience very hot weather during this period, with daytime temperatures expected to hover between 40°C and 43°C from June 8 through June 12.
Meanwhile, nighttime temperatures are also projected to rise, exacerbating discomfort and increasing the risk of heat-related stress. The PMD further forecasted that temperatures across most parts of the country would climb well above normal levels. Notably, several districts in Sindh and Balochistan are predicted to face extreme heat, with maximum temperatures ranging from 48°C to 51°C.
Specifically, areas including Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo Daro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushero Feroze, Sibbi, Turbat, and Panjgur are expected to experience temperatures 4°C to 6°C above average from June 7 to 12.
The PMD issued a warning about the serious health risks posed by the heatwave, urging the public—particularly children, women, and elderly individuals—to take extra precautions during this period to mitigate heat-related dangers and disruptions to daily life.
