Karachi Rain Claims Six Lives in Electrocution and Wall Collapse Incidents

At least six individuals lost their lives and three others sustained injuries in various rain-related accidents across Karachi. The city experienced multiple tragic events during the recent downpour.

In Golimar, a rickshaw driver named Irshad died when a house wall collapsed on him. Meanwhile, in Surjani Town, a young man suffered fatal electrocution while working outdoors. Another man, Abdul Wali, was electrocuted near a hotel in PIB Colony.

Additionally, a 12-year-old girl named Dua died after receiving an electric shock inside her home in Surjani Town Sector 7-A. An unidentified man also lost his life due to electrocution on MA Jinnah Road. On the Super Highway in the Ahsanabad area, a laborer died from electrocution during the rainfall.

In a separate incident, three children were injured when a wall collapsed in Orangi Town. These events underscore persistent safety issues in Karachi during rains, particularly related to exposed electrical wiring and structurally compromised buildings across various neighborhoods.

Earlier, K-Electric issued a safety advisory ahead of the rain forecast for Karachi and nearby areas. The utility company emphasized that the situation is under close surveillance, with field staff on high alert. Citizens were urged to exercise caution when using electrical devices during heavy rain and strong winds, as unsafe practices could lead to severe accidents.

K-Electric specifically warned against operating electrical equipment such as water pumps in wet conditions or standing water due to the risk of electrocution. Residents were also advised to keep a safe distance from damaged wires, electrical installations, and overhead TV or internet cables.

The utility further highlighted the dangers posed by illegal power connections, known locally as kundas, which significantly increase the risk of fatal incidents during adverse weather conditions.
