Islamabad Private Schools Ordered to Implement Four-Day Academic Week

Islamabad’s private educational institutions have been instructed to switch to a four-day academic week as part of government initiatives to conserve fuel and reduce operational expenses. This directive, issued by the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA), mandates that on-campus classes be held from Monday through Thursday, effective immediately and until further notice.

This adjustment is a response to broader austerity measures aimed at curbing energy consumption, triggered by the recent surge in global oil prices due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The PEIRA secretary emphasized that the new schedule is intended to help manage costs and preserve fuel resources, though the duration of this change has not yet been specified.

Notably, this decision mirrors similar policies adopted in the neighboring Punjab province, where schools, colleges, and universities have also been directed to observe a four-day week with Fridays off. Additionally, timing adjustments have been made for institutions operating in double shifts.

Authorities have called on all private schools in Islamabad to ensure full compliance with the new schedule, reinforcing the government’s commitment to energy conservation during these challenging times.
