Heavy Rain Forces Early School Closures on Karachi’s Malir Cantt Road

Several educational institutions along Malir Cantt Road in Karachi dismissed students early as the worsening weather and road conditions made travel unsafe. School officials prioritized student safety by deciding to send children home amid the deteriorating infrastructure and traffic challenges caused by the rain.

The city experienced significant disruption as heavy rainfall and thunderstorms flooded University Road and surrounding areas, severely hampering daily commutes. Poor drainage systems and damaged roads exacerbated the flooding, leaving both vehicles and pedestrians struggling to move through waterlogged streets. Residents faced delays and frustration, underscoring persistent infrastructure problems in Karachi.

In a significant development, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon stated that the government had implemented precautionary measures ahead of the rains. These included canceling leaves for essential staff and deploying extra dewatering pumps in vulnerable low-lying zones. Municipal officers were placed on high alert to closely monitor the situation and respond promptly to emerging issues.

Minister Memon stressed that public safety remains the government’s foremost concern during such weather events. He urged citizens to exercise caution during heavy rainfall and encouraged them to promptly contact relevant authorities in emergencies to ensure swift assistance.
