Karachi Suspends Crackdown on Fancy Number Plates Amid Weather Concerns

In a significant development, the ongoing crackdown on vehicles displaying fancy or unauthorized number plates in Karachi has been temporarily paused. This decision comes as adverse weather conditions have made it challenging to continue the campaign effectively. Traffic police personnel have been instructed to maintain their presence across the city’s roads despite the suspension of the specific operation.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah has been actively overseeing the situation, conducting visits to multiple areas to ensure smooth traffic management. He emphasized that the directive to halt the campaign was issued by Additional Inspector General (IG) Karachi Azad Khan, prioritizing public convenience over enforcement during unfavorable weather.

The campaign, which began on Wednesday, aimed to target vehicles and motorcycles using unapproved or counterfeit number plates. This initiative was launched under the guidance of Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan and involved coordinated efforts from traffic police, district police, excise authorities, the driving licence branch, and the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC). The operation covered all 90 traffic sections throughout Karachi, with officers deployed citywide to enforce regulations and improve road safety.

Despite the suspension of the crackdown on fancy number plates, all traffic personnel remain actively deployed to manage traffic flow and ensure public safety. DIG Pir Muhammad Shah confirmed that the campaign will resume once weather conditions improve, reaffirming the commitment to facilitate the public while minimizing inconvenience during this period.
