Heavy Rain Floods University Road, Disrupts Karachi Traffic

Karachi faced major traffic disruptions on University Road after intense rainfall led to widespread waterlogging, submerging several sections of the road. The accumulation of rainwater severely hampered daily commutes, with many residents struggling to reach their destinations on time.

Poor road conditions combined with insufficient drainage infrastructure exacerbated the flooding, transforming typically busy routes into nearly impassable stretches. Both vehicles and pedestrians encountered significant difficulties navigating through the submerged areas, underscoring ongoing infrastructure challenges in the city.

Commuters expressed frustration over delays as travel between various parts of Karachi became increasingly problematic. In response, calls have intensified for authorities to improve water drainage systems to avoid similar disruptions during future monsoon rains.

In a significant development, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon confirmed that the government has implemented precautionary measures ahead of the anticipated heavy rainfall. These include cancelling leaves of essential personnel to ensure full readiness and deploying additional dewatering pumps in vulnerable low-lying zones to mitigate flooding risks.

Municipal officials have been directed to maintain heightened vigilance throughout the rainy period. Minister Memon stressed that safeguarding citizens remains a top government priority and urged the public to adhere to safety guidelines during adverse weather. Residents are advised to promptly contact relevant authorities in emergencies to receive timely assistance.
