Sindh Police have announced an extension for the deadline concerning the crackdown on unauthorized vehicle and motorcycle number plates. The enforcement campaign, initially scheduled earlier, will now commence on April 1, allowing vehicle owners additional time to comply.
The deadline for replacing illegal or “fancy” plates has been extended to March 31 to accommodate the public and ensure sufficient time for compliance. During the operation, authorities will take strict action against vehicles displaying private, non-standard, or decorative plates, as well as those driven by individuals without valid licenses.
This extension follows directives from Karachi Police Chief, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Azad Khan. Citizens are strongly advised to install government-approved number plates before the new deadline to avoid legal consequences.
In a related development, Sindh’s transport department has intensified efforts against vehicles operating with fake fitness certificates. Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon has ordered the cancellation of route permits and the registration of cases against offenders using bogus certificates.
The minister has also instructed the PTA secretary to provide a comprehensive report on actions taken against such vehicles within three days. Sharjeel Memon emphasized that some transporters have been exploiting fake fitness certificates to bypass mandatory physical inspections, posing a significant threat to public safety.
He stated that fake fitness certificates represent a serious legal violation and a grave danger to lives and property. The government is committed to ensuring a safe, transparent, and law-abiding transport system, and will take strict, unbiased action against all violators involved in these illegal activities.
