In Islamabad’s I-8 sector, a young office employee named Danish Sagheer was fatally shot by a security guard at a local money exchange. The victim succumbed to his injuries instantly after the guard discharged his weapon.
The security guard involved, Muhammad Umar, was promptly detained by authorities, and the firearm used in the shooting was confiscated. Investigations into the incident are currently underway.
Eyewitnesses and a video circulating on social media show the guard loading a pump-action rifle before firing at the victim. Although the suspect initially claimed the shooting was accidental, the footage suggests the possibility of deliberate intent.
Police officials have stated that all elements of the case are being thoroughly examined, and appropriate legal measures will be taken based on the investigation’s outcome.
This tragic event has intensified concerns regarding the use of firearms by private security personnel. In a related incident last month, a man was killed following an altercation with a security guard in Karachi’s North Nazimabad area. Experts highlight that the rising frequency of such cases points to deficiencies in the training, regulation, and supervision of private security staff.
