NDMA Predicts Rain, Thunderstorms Nationwide Over Next 24 Hours

The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) under the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning for rainfall and thunderstorms across Pakistan within the next 12 to 24 hours. A system of western winds entering from southwestern Balochistan is expected to affect most regions, bringing showers along with strong winds and gusty storms.

Urban flooding risks have been highlighted for low-lying areas including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Chakwal due to ongoing rainfall. Residents in these vulnerable localities are urged to stay vigilant and take precautionary steps to reduce potential damage.

Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds is anticipated in Islamabad and several cities across Punjab such as Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, Mianwali, and Mandi Bahauddin. Additional districts forecasted to receive rain include Khushab, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Kasur, Okara, Narowal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan.

Thunderstorms, dust storms, and strong winds are likely in parts of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with isolated hailstorm chances. In light of these conditions, NDMA has already alerted authorities about possible flooding in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Flash floods are forecasted particularly in Balochistan’s Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Khuzdar, Zhob, and Lasbela. Similarly, flood-like conditions are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Parachinar, Peshawar, Mardan, and Swabi, prompting calls for precautionary measures in vulnerable zones.

Snowfall is also expected over the next 12 to 24 hours in the upper and mountainous areas of Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Districts such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Haripur are likely to experience rain with thunderstorms and strong winds during this period.

Dust storms, strong winds, and rain are forecasted in Swabi, Charsadda, Mardan, Nowshera, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan. Parts of Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir including Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Astore, Diamer, Ghizer, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, Haveli, and Neelum Valley are also expected to receive rain.

In Balochistan, rain is anticipated in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Kalat, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, Pishin, Barkhan, Sibi, Dera Bugti, Khuzdar, Awaran, Washuk, Panjgur, Turbat, Gwadar, and Lasbela. Sindh cities such as Kashmore, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Shahdadkot, Khairpur, and Larkana are also expected to see rain and thunderstorms within the next 12 to 24 hours.

The NDMA has warned that strong winds, lightning, and hailstorms may cause damage to weak structures, trees, and power lines. Rainfall could lead to slippery roads and disrupt traffic, while snowfall in mountainous regions might affect travel. Continuous rain in hilly areas also raises the risk of landslides.

Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, drive carefully, and follow official weather updates. During storms and strong winds, the public should stay clear of trees, fragile buildings, and electrical installations. Tourists and travelers heading to northern areas have been cautioned to monitor weather and road conditions before their journeys.

NDMA encourages the public to receive timely alerts via its mobile app “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert.” Meanwhile, all provincial and district administrations have been instructed to remain on high alert and implement necessary measures to manage the anticipated weather challenges.
