WHO Reports Over 20 Attacks on Iranian Healthcare Facilities Since March 1

The World Health Organization has disclosed that Iranian healthcare facilities have been subjected to over 20 attacks since March 1. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted the alarming frequency of these assaults, which have severely impacted medical services in the region. Such attacks on health infrastructure not only disrupt essential care but also violate international humanitarian laws designed to protect medical personnel and patients.

In a significant development, these repeated incidents underscore the vulnerability of healthcare systems in conflict or politically unstable areas. The targeting of hospitals and clinics hampers efforts to provide critical health services, especially during times when medical resources are already strained. This situation exacerbates public health challenges and threatens the wellbeing of vulnerable populations dependent on uninterrupted medical care.

Meanwhile, the WHO’s condemnation of these attacks calls for urgent international attention and action to safeguard healthcare facilities worldwide. Protecting medical infrastructure is crucial to maintaining health security and ensuring that humanitarian principles are upheld. The ongoing assaults in Iran serve as a stark reminder of the need for global cooperation to prevent violence against health workers and institutions in all regions.
