Marvel Studios has officially commenced production on the second season of Marvel Zombies, following the enthusiastic reception of the inaugural season. The animated series, which debuted on Disney+ in 2025, distinguished itself by offering a darker, horror-infused interpretation of beloved MCU characters, and the upcoming season promises to deepen this unique approach.
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television, and animation, revealed that early animation for Season 2 has already been reviewed. He described the new season as ambitious and unprecedented for the studio, suggesting that it will broaden both the narrative scope and tonal complexity beyond what was seen previously.
The first season quickly captured viewers’ attention, even surpassing popular shows like Grey’s Anatomy in streaming rankings across several countries during its launch week. This strong performance has fueled anticipation for the follow-up, particularly among audiences drawn to the MCU’s darker themes.
While critical responses to Season 1 were mixed, with some noting inconsistencies in storytelling, the series’ inventive premise and action sequences were widely praised. Season 2 is expected to build upon this foundation, continuing the storyline set within the animated What If…? universe, where familiar heroes confront a zombie outbreak with high stakes and unexpected twists.
Season 1 featured returning voice performances from notable MCU actors such as Hailee Steinfeld, Elizabeth Olsen, Florence Pugh, and Iman Vellani, which helped anchor the series. It is anticipated that many of these voices will return for the new season, maintaining continuity and fan engagement.
Although an official release date for Marvel Zombies Season 2 has not yet been announced, development is clearly progressing, and fans remain eager to see how the story unfolds in this darker corner of the Marvel universe.
