Tubi is set to enhance its free streaming library by adding a substantial collection of Sesame Street episodes. Beginning April 1, the platform will feature 250 episodes spanning from the show’s inception in 1969 through season 38. This extensive lineup includes iconic characters such as Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Big Bird.
Notable episodes in the collection include the very first installment, ‘Gordon Introduces Sally to Sesame Street,’ the 1988 wedding special ‘Maria and Luis Get Married,’ the 1980 sci-fi-themed visit featuring R2-D2 and C-3PO, and the 1978 adventure ‘Big Bird Goes to Hawaii.’ To keep the content fresh, Tubi plans to update the collection quarterly by replacing 10% of the episodes with new selections.
In a significant development, this addition complements existing streaming arrangements for Sesame Workshop content. Netflix currently streams recent seasons and select episodes worldwide, while YouTube offers 100 free episodes. Within the United States, Sesame Street is also available through PBS stations, PBS Kids digital platforms, and HBO Max, which holds a large episode catalog for subscribers.
Adam Lewinson, Tubi’s chief content officer, emphasized the intent behind the move, stating that the platform aims to connect viewers across generations. He highlighted that providing hundreds of episodes for free allows children to access foundational learning experiences while enabling parents to share cherished childhood memories with their kids.
Joseph Giraldi, COO of Sesame Workshop, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting that it broadens the series’ reach and impact. He pointed out that the collaboration allows beloved characters to engage with more children and families than ever before.
Tubi, a division of Fox Corp.’s Tubi Media Group, boasts the largest on-demand library of premium content, featuring over 275,000 movies and TV episodes alongside more than 300 original productions. With a monthly active user base exceeding 97 million, it ranks among the most popular free streaming services in the United States.
The inclusion of Sesame Street strengthens Tubi’s appeal to family audiences by providing classic educational programming a new platform. This ensures that timeless lessons and the joyful spirit of Sesame Street continue to entertain and educate generations of viewers.
