Pakistan Day is being observed today throughout the country with deep national pride and a strong sense of unity. This significant occasion marks the anniversary of the historic Lahore Resolution, a pivotal moment in the subcontinent’s history that set the stage for the creation of an independent Pakistan. Citizens from all walks of life, along with government institutions, are coming together to honor this milestone that symbolizes the birth of a separate homeland.

The day’s proceedings began with solemn ceremonies in the federal capital, Islamabad, where a 31-gun salute was fired to pay homage to the nation’s founders. Simultaneously, 21-gun salutes echoed in each of the four provincial capitals, reinforcing the collective spirit of patriotism. The booming artillery was accompanied by heartfelt chants of “Allahu Akbar” and “Pakistan Zindabad,” reflecting the enduring resilience and dedication of the country’s armed forces. Early morning prayers were held in mosques nationwide, with worshippers beseeching for peace, security, and continued advancement for Pakistan.

In light of ongoing austerity measures, the traditional Pakistan Day military parade and many public festivities were not organized this year. Nevertheless, the enthusiasm and reverence for the day remained undiminished. Across the country, various ceremonies and tributes took place, demonstrating that the spirit of Pakistan Day continues to inspire and unite the nation despite the scaled-back celebrations.

In Lahore, a dignified change of guard ceremony was conducted at Mazar-e-Iqbal, the mausoleum of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who is widely regarded as the spiritual architect of Pakistan. A well-disciplined contingent from the Pakistan Air Force assumed ceremonial guard duties, accompanied by the Sutlej Rangers in a formal march past. Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Shahid Afzal attended the event as the chief guest, laying a floral wreath and offering Fateha at the shrine. He also penned his reflections in the guest book, paying homage to the visionary poet whose ideas helped shape the dream of an independent nation.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi extended a heartfelt message to the nation on this occasion. He described Pakistan Day as a powerful emblem of determination, unity, and steadfast faith. Paying tribute to the nation’s founders and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for freedom, he emphasized that March 23 stands as a golden chapter in Pakistan’s history when the aspiration for a separate homeland was formally articulated. The minister urged all citizens to renew their dedication to the principles of unity, self-reliance, and progress, underscoring that the core values championed by Muhammad Ali Jinnah—faith, unity, and discipline—remain vital for the country’s continued success.

Law enforcement agencies also reaffirmed their commitment to the nation’s security and well-being. Inspector General of Punjab Police, Abdul Karim, paid homage to the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and pledged that the Punjab Police force would persist in its mission to serve and protect the people. He highlighted the crucial role of security forces working hand in hand with citizens to overcome challenges to peace and stability, ensuring that Pakistan’s path toward a safer and stronger future remains uninterrupted.

In Peshawar, the day’s observances began with a 21-gun salute at Karnal Sher Khan Stadium, followed by special prayers invoking blessings for the country. In a progressive move, the provincial government launched an ambitious tree plantation campaign titled “Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Strong Pakistan.” Chief Minister Sohail Afridi inaugurated the initiative by planting the first sapling, symbolizing growth, environmental sustainability, and hope for future generations. The campaign aims to plant over one million saplings across 285 sites, involving thousands of forestry officials and workers, reflecting a commitment to ecological preservation alongside national development goals.

As Pakistan commemorates this historic day, the overarching message resonates clearly: unity, sacrifice, and a shared vision remain the foundation of the nation’s strength. From solemn tributes honoring the past to forward-looking environmental and social initiatives, Pakistan Day continues to inspire citizens across the country to uphold the ideals upon which the nation was founded and to work collectively toward a prosperous future.
