Govt Absorbs Rs 69 Billion to Stabilize POL Prices Amid Regional Tensions: Aurangzeb

Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced on Sunday that the government has shouldered a substantial financial burden of Rs 69 billion in order to stabilize the prices of petroleum products across the country. This move aims to provide tangible relief to the general public amid rising global energy costs and economic uncertainties. The minister emphasized that maintaining affordable fuel prices remains a top priority for the government, despite the significant fiscal strain involved.

Speaking to the media, Aurangzeb highlighted the precarious situation in the region, where escalating tensions and the looming threat of conflict could jeopardize the energy infrastructure. Such instability poses a serious risk to the supply chain, potentially disrupting the availability and distribution of vital petroleum products. He expressed cautious optimism that the energy supply situation would improve by April, hoping that Pakistan would avoid any major shortages or crises during this challenging period.

The Finance Minister further clarified that the government is committed to minimizing the financial impact on ordinary citizens. To this end, a range of effective measures are being implemented at multiple levels to ease the burden on consumers. Aurangzeb stressed that the government is pursuing a comprehensive and strategic approach to safeguard economic stability, even as it grapples with limited fiscal resources and external pressures.

Recognizing the constraints on available funds, Aurangzeb underscored the necessity of adopting sustainable and long-term solutions to the country’s energy challenges. He pointed out that efforts are underway to promote demand management, encourage more efficient energy use, and implement conservation strategies aimed at curbing unnecessary consumption. These initiatives are designed to reduce pressure on the energy sector while fostering responsible usage among consumers.

In addition to these measures, the Finance Minister revealed that the government is preparing a targeted relief package specifically aimed at supporting low-income and vulnerable groups. This initiative seeks to alleviate the inflationary impact on the most deserving segments of society by providing them with essential facilities and financial assistance. Aurangzeb invited economists, stakeholders, and the wider public to contribute their suggestions and ideas, emphasizing that inclusive policymaking will lead to more effective and responsive economic strategies.

He also referenced Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent address, in which the premier outlined the economic and energy challenges confronting the nation in detail. The Finance Minister reaffirmed that the government is actively engaged in deploying all possible measures to address these issues and steer the country towards stability and growth.

Concluding his remarks, Muhammad Aurangzeb extended warm Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to the entire nation, praying for sustained peace, development, and security across Pakistan. He expressed confidence that through collective effort and responsible conduct, the country will successfully navigate its current difficulties and emerge stronger in the days ahead.
