Punjab Government Prohibits Temporary Mechanical Rides During Eid to Enhance Safety

In a decisive move aimed at safeguarding public welfare during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations, the Punjab Home Department has announced a comprehensive ban on all temporary mechanical rides throughout the province. This prohibition extends to cities including Multan, where authorities are intensifying efforts to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of festival-goers. The directive was issued on Friday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to public security during one of the busiest festive periods of the year.

The Deputy Commissioner of Multan, Nauman Siddique, has taken a leading role in implementing this policy by instructing relevant officials to conduct thorough safety inspections of all amusement rides operating within the district. the new guidelines, only mechanical rides that are permanently installed in recognized amusement parks will be permitted to function during Eid, and even these must hold valid and up-to-date fitness certificates. This measure is designed to eliminate the risks associated with makeshift rides that often lack proper maintenance and safety oversight.

Furthermore, owners and operators of these permanent mechanical attractions are now required to secure official certification from their respective Deputy Commissioners. This certification serves as a formal confirmation that the rides comply with established safety standards, thereby minimizing the chances of malfunctions or accidents. The government’s insistence on such documentation reflects growing concerns about the dangers posed by temporary rides, which have historically been linked to incidents caused by overloading, substandard construction, and inadequate upkeep.

To bolster enforcement, special monitoring teams have been formed under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner City Azka Sahar. These teams are tasked with overseeing security arrangements at all public venues where people gather during the Eid festivities. Their responsibilities include ensuring adherence to safety protocols and swiftly addressing any violations that might compromise public safety. This proactive approach highlights the administration’s dedication to preventing tragedies and maintaining order during the holiday period.

It is worth noting that the decision to ban temporary mechanical rides comes amid increasing public awareness and concern regarding the safety of amusement facilities. Temporary rides, often set up hastily for short-term use, have repeatedly raised alarms due to their susceptibility to mechanical failures and lack of rigorous safety checks. By restricting operations to certified permanent rides only, the Punjab government aims to create a safer environment for families and children enjoying the Eid celebrations.

Overall, these measures reflect a broader trend within the province to prioritize citizen safety and regulate recreational activities more strictly. As Eid approaches, authorities remain vigilant and committed to enforcing these rules, ensuring that the joyous occasion is celebrated without compromising the well-being of the public.
